Abstract�� Mechanical stress has long been hypothesized as one of the important factors in regulating the structure and organization of vascular smooth muscle cells. Based on the conceptions of zero stress state and opening angle proposed by earlier researchers, stress distribution in blood vessel wall with inner pressure was investigated numerically. The results indicated that opening angle has a strong effect on the distribution of circumferential stress in the thickness direction of the vessel wall.
