Abstract: The development and innovation of Mao Zedong on Marx's theory of historiography is an important content of Mao Zedong's Thought. His exposition of historical issues has undergone a process from accepting Marx's historical materialism to continuous development and innovation. Mao Zedong's historical thought embodies the inheritance and breakthrough of the traditional historiography with Marx's view of history, which shows that Mao Zedong regards and treats Chinese society and revolution with Chinese culture as the standard, and scientifically evaluates the status and function of historical figures. The history of Mao Zedong's Thought is not only valuable for the analysis of Chinese problems, and guiding Chinese revolution, but also valuable for the promoting and directing effects of Marx's historiography in China.
