History and Basic Characteristics of People's Republic of China's Core Values Education

Reviewing the historical process of the core values education in People's Republic of China has important reference significance for the education of core values in the New Era. From the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the period of comprehensive socialist construction, the period of the Cultural Revolution, the new period of reform and opening-up, to the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the education of the core values of new China responded to the needs of the times and played an important role in cohering people's hearts and minds. New China's core values education is constantly concise and clear in its content. The focus is on youth, students and party members and cadres. The education ways developed from compulsoriness, indoctrination to practice cultivation. The concerns developed from the domestic to international environment. In the future, the key to core values education is to solve the problem of "internalization in the heart and externalization in the action". The education should always be in line with the needs of social development, continue to adhere to the direction of practice, and strive to cultivate value confidence, pay attention to the role of young people in the construction of value identity and the popular moral wisdom.
