Abstract: Regarding the number of kinds of mappings hypallage involves the similarities or differences between English and Chinese hypallagein terms of categories and cognitive mechanism, the possibility of hypallage explanation in the light of CIT, this paper makes a comparative analysis of adjective hypallage in classical Chinese and English love poems ranging from the 19th to the 20th century and finds that in hypallages three classes of mappings all can be found and four types of network exist in both English and Chinese hypallages; hypallage can evoke two mental spaces and the occurrence of hypallageremains the same in English and Chinese. This study will facilitate the understanding and appreciating of hypallage for literature lovers and teachers of literature and language.
