Abstract:
This paper studies consumer revolution in a longer historical period and a broader global context. Along with the speedy development of the global trade since sixteenth century, a country's consumption has been more and more affected by imported goods. In the aspect of promoting consumption revolution, the import of consumer goods is more guiding, while the innovation of national supply is more decisive. But the import of consumer goods provides opportunities for the innovation and development of national supply, and even lays the foundation for a nation's rise. Now China is facing the upgrading of the consumption structure, consumption outflow and consumers' demand for foreign consumer goods at the same time. This shows that the import of advanced consumer goods is an important factor in promoting domestic consumption upgrading. The ability and level of national supply can't meet the requirements of consumption upgrading. China urgently needs structural reforms in the supply side to enhance competition for domestic and global markets, and then reshape the impetus of domestic consumption upgrading.
