Abstract: In the process of learning and interpreting history, it is important to view history as a closely connected and unified whole, and form a scientific understanding of historical development from the perspective of holistic thinking. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping has adhered to the holistic thinking of history, comprehensively grasped the wholeness of historical development, and formulated his important exposition on historical integrity. Thus, it is necessary to understand the realistic nature of history from the wholeness of the development of human society, to follow the basic principle of considering history from the wholeness of materialist conception of history, to bring into play the referential function of history from the wholeness of the value manifestation, and to explore the realistic way of passing on history from the wholeness of history itself. In the new era, it is essential to study Xi Jinping’s important exposition on historical integrity, to grasp the wholeness of historical development, and to firmly criticize and resist all kinds of fragmented, nihilistic and entertainment-oriented historical idealism. It is also fundamental to correctly view history, pass on history, and deeply explore the value of the times contained in history.
