Abstract:
When the controversy among the members of the scientific community comes into public view, the focus of the controversy will shift from cognitive elements to social elements, presenting a complex problem situation. In order to clarify the focus of controversy among scientists who hold different views in the public science controversy, the paper conducts a case study of the controversial scientific event between Yi-Fang Wang and Chen-Ning Yang regarding the large circular accelerator, i.e. the Circular Electron-Positron Collider and the Super Proton-Proton Collider (CEPC-SPPC). It is found from the coded data that the focus of the controversy between the two sides is the notion of equality and economic issues. Therefore, the paper carries out the text analysis of scientific discourses concerning this focus. And the study finds that in the public science controversy, the focus of the controversy among the members of the scientific community is essentially the different ways to measure the interests of multiple stakeholders, which in turn is reflected in whether the members of the scientific community can think about scientific decision-making beyond the standpoint of the scientific community.
