The Investigation Report on Academic Word Ability of Non-English Majors in Beihang University

摘要: 通过调查北航非英语专业学生学术词汇的四个强度——主动回忆、被动回忆、主动识别和被 动识别,证明词汇的被动回忆是学生语言学习成绩的决定因素,这与Laufer等的调查结 果一致。同时,还考察了学生的词汇学习态度及策略,建议大学英语在深入的教改中,还需 继续培养学生的自主学习能力,加强课外阅读的指导,并在课堂上为学生提供运用语言的交 际活动机会,强化语言应用。Abstract: This study investigates the "strength" of academic word knowledge of non-Engl ish majors in Beihang University, which involves the four degrees of active reca ll, passive recall, active recognition and passive recognition respectively. The test results show that, as reported by Laufer and Goldstein, passive recall is the best predictor of the students' language achievement. This study also invest igates the students' vocabulary learning attitudes and strategies. Hence it is s uggested that in the further College English reform teachers should promote lear ner autonomy, direct extensive reading outside the classroom and emphasize the l anguage use by providing the students with more communicative activities.
