Harmonious Conformity of Home Culture Awareness and Target Language Carrier

  • 摘要: 探讨了多元文化背景下原语文化意识与语言交际能力的关系及其重要性。在分析原语文化意识缺失现象及其后果的基础上强调指出,大学英语教学中单纯目标语文化的输入是不够的,原语文化意识的丧失意味着学习者语言交际中整体社会背景支持的残缺。文化的多元性 、语言交流的双向性、交际能力的内涵以及教学的本土环境决定了原语文化在大学英语教学中的不可缺性。外语教师自身传播多元文化的意识、外语教材中输入内容的合理分配及中国文化课程设置等是解决问题的有效手段。
    Abstract: The paper discusses the importance of home culture and its relationship with com municative competence in College English learning. After analyzing learners’ pa ssive role or even failures in communicating in English, the authors point out t hat home culture is an indispensable part in constructing students’ social back ground, which guarantees successful communication in its true sense. The multi- nature of cultures, the two-way exchange in languages, the meaning of communica tive competence all contribute to the fact that the mere input of the target cul ture is far from enough. To solve the problem, both teachers and learners should develop their awareness of home culture. Enriching teaching materials and cours e design with Chinese culture may be a feasible remedy approach.
