Abstract:
Socialism with Chinese characteristics has gained much attention from foreign scholars, especially the Western left-wing scholars. The debate mainly focuses on the socialist market economy, the socialist democracy and cultural development with Chinese characteristics. Scholars like Paul Burkett argue that the so-called socialist market economy in China is essentially capitalist, while Tony Andr閍ni and some other scholars hold that China's market economy is still socialist because its socialist principles remain unchanged. Meanwhile, many scholars show much interest in the socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics, a new form of democracy in their eyes. Besides, more and more scholars in the U.K., the U.S., Japan, South Korean and Singapore are attracted by the brilliant traditional Chinese culture, which, as they consider, is the basis of the cultural development with Chinese characteristics. Obviously, foreign scholars' exploration of China's socialist construction may serve as a resource of enlightenment on advancing our great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
