透视“未知”与重塑“已知”——论《已知的世界》的历史元小说叙事策略

Penetrating “the Unknown” and Reconstructing “the Known”:on the Narration Character of Historiographic Metafiction in The Known World

  • 摘要: 美国当代黑人作家爱德华·琼斯的代表作《已知的世界》探究了黑人奴隶主这一特殊历史现象,将小说中人物的个人命运融入整个民族历史,运用高超的后现代小说艺术手法,再造了一个世人自以为"已知的"世界。作者颠覆了传统历史小说的叙述模式,以多维视角的叙述手法进行话语的建构,由此不仅有力地揭示了历史的文本性与虚构性,而且重新确立了黑人对于其自身历史的话语权,表现出强烈的自我指涉和社会指涉,彰显了"历史元小说"的叙事特征。

     

    Abstract: Edward Jones' novel The Known World is regarded as the works of classic contemporary slave narrative. Based on the theme of black slave owner, it rewrites an unknown history of slavery by people at large with artistic strategy of mixing fact with fiction; so exposes the textual and fictional features of history. It breaks through the traditional slave narratives on dualism between the white and black as well as slavery and freedom. In the meantime, it uses the multi-angle narrative strategy to construct the discourse, setting up the discourse rights for the black on their own history, also probes into history as "discourse site" from the black subjectivity and ideology, etc. Analyzing on the features of the novel text and narrative, it seeks to arouse people's concern and profound thinking for the fate of contemporary African-Americans.
