Current Situation, Problems and Prospects of “Silver Economy” in China

Abstract: With the continuous progress of medical technology and the gradual improvement of social security system, the life expectancy of the elderly in China has been significantly prolonged and the number of the elderly people has sharply increased. As the consumption ability and consumption concept of the “silver group” change, this group shows huge consumption potential and is expected to become an important part of the future consumer market. To develop the elderly market and serve the elderly group well, it is necessary to solve the existing problems of the “silver market” as soon as possible and determine the future development direction of the market of the “silver economy”. In view of existing problems such as insufficient market share, many frauds and unreasonable product structure, the paper proposes that it should be essential to continue to strengthen government support and supervision, improve the supply of precise products and services for enterprises, and promote the cultivation of talents. At the same time, the active aging policy requires that in the future, China’s “silver economy” should develop in diversified directions, paying attention to education, tourism and entertainment, real estate and medical care which are specialized for serving the elderly, and strive to form a complete industrial cluster for the elderly, so as to promote the vigorous development of the “silver economy” and bring new growth points to China’s social and economic development.
