Abstract:
Based on the conceptualization of digital rural construction, this study develops an evaluation index system and measures its level from six dimensions: digital infrastructure, digital industry, digital culture, digital governance, digital services and green development. It then examines the spatial differences and dynamic evolution trend from 2012 to 2023. The results show that, first, the level of digital rural construction in China has exhibited a steady growth trend though the overall level remains relatively low. Second, the overall differences in the level of digital rural construction in China have gradually narrowed. However, the differences among provinces in the eastern region, and between the eastern and western regions remain significant, with interregional disparities constituting the primary source of overall variation. Third, the center of the nuclear density curve of the whole country and the four major regions has shifted rightward overall, though there are still large differences among provinces. Therefore, future efforts should focus on constantly improving the top-level design of digital rural construction, building strong rural digital infrastructure, deepening cross-regional cooperation, and developing region-specific digital rural construction models.
