Abstract: With the publication of College English Curriculum Requirements, a new round of reform of college English teaching is well under way in universities and colleges throughout China. But how to orient the reform remains a fairly co ntroversial issue. This article attempts to provide an answer by conducting a chronological survey and analysis of college English teaching in the contexts of the past, the present and the future.
