The Principle of Common-but-differentiated Responsibilities and Space Debris Mitigation

  • The principle of common-but-differentiated responsibilities (CBDR) has played a very important role in the field of international environmental law. It is both necessary and feasible to apply the principle to address the issues of space debris mitigation. Specifically, in the field of space debris mitigation, application of this principle include the following meanings: all countries have common obligations to mitigate space debris, a minimum mitigation standards must be followed by all countries, differential treatment should be implemented according to different national circumstances, space powers should give developing countries the necessary financial and technical support.
