Dual Margin Analysis of Chinese Vegetable Export Growth

  • Decomposition methodology is used to do an empirical analysis for export growth of Chinese vegetable based on HS-6 export data of Chinese vegetable products during the period 2004-2011.The result shows that although the growth of China's export mainly depends on extensive margin, intensive margin plays an important role in the export to major trade partners. By decomposing the intensive margin deeply, it is found that Chinese vegetable export growth mainly comes from quantity expansion, contribution of price margin is relatively tiny. To change the export growth mode of Chinese vegetable, enterprises should try their best to keep the variety of vegetable products and develop new products with high technological content and value.
