Measure on Bargaining Power of Chinese Migrant Workers: From the Perspective of Job Searching and Wage Dispersion

  • Collective bargaining plays an important role in resource allocation process in China's labor market. This article applied 2Tier-SFA method to measure the bargaining power between migrant workers and firms based on the data from"migrant worker employment and food demand survey". An empirical application shows that migrant workers are paid more than expected productivity, although there exist a part of workers with low power.There is no serious gender wage discrimination in wage bargaining process. Moreover, migrant workers have more but unstable net bargaining surplus in services, and are paid more with urbanization desire.
