English for Academic Purposes: Project-based Learning 3-Stage Teaching for Ph.D. Students

  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses can help graduate students facilitate academic communication on international platforms, and are increasingly attracting attentions. Based on 17-year EAP teaching experience and the theory of project-based learning, this paper proposes a 3-stage teaching method for the EAP writing course offered especially for Ph.D. students, i.e., the basic-academic-tracking progressive procedure. Drawing on a flowchart and a series of specific teaching strategies, as well as students' post-course achievements, this 3-stage methodology has been proved to be effective in motivating Ph.D. students to enhance their writing and speaking ability and cultivate a good writing habit.
