Legality, Legitimacy and the Consequences: Legal Issues of ASAT

  • Anti-Satellite Missile Test has caused many international concerns in recent years. According to the legal theory of lex lata and lex ferenda, the au thor concludes that China's ASAT under the current outer space law is legal and legitimate and causes no international liability, puts forward some suggestions for regulating the space debris in the future, and points out that states may es tablish new rules by their legal acts. The author also suggests that it is neces sary for the international community to clarify further the meaning of "harmful contamination" in the OST.
