Abstract
Waiting and drifting are literary motifs centering on salvation and th e Bible defines salvation as the returning to Paradise. However, in Waiting for Godot, those who are waiting and drifting cannot see the hope of salvation. Meta phorically, the time of the play stretches to the past and the future, and the s pace implies the existence of heaven and hell, hence people's waiting and drifti ng is endless and hopeless.
