Postmodern Translation Views and Translation Teaching

  • Postmodern translation theorist Rosemary Arrojo maintains that traditional translation theories that the authority of the original text should be given priority should be discarded. She holds that the translator himself should actively participate in meaning construction during translation. Translation teaching practice under such postmodern translation views deconstructs the traditional method in present translation teaching class and upraises the status of translators by freeing them from shackles of the sense of guilty for their inadequacies to be "faithful" enough to the original text. Yet, her exposition of meaning instability is somehow overstated and remains to be disputed.
