This paper reports a study that investigated the listening metaconitive awareness of 150 first-year English majors by means of Metacognitive Awareness Listening Questionnaire. It finds that the listening metacognitive awareness of the subjects was at the medium or high level,the correlation analysis indicates that three metacognitive awarenesses, namely "problem-solving", "directed attention", and "person knowledge", are positive factors affecting EFL listening while "mental translation" is negative, there exist significant differences in the listening metacognitive awareness among the effective listeners and ineffective listeners. The findings of this study may shed light on EFL listening teaching.
