Abstract: A hierarchical network management system is presented,which consists of a main manager and many submanagers. The main manager delegates management tasks to submanagers by using NMP(Network Management Procedure). Idealy, the main manager runs at the management center and the submanager runs at the managed network site, hence it is a hierachical architecture.The NMPs excute in the submanager, communicate with agents staying in the managed device, gather data and process these data, then return the processed data back to the main manager,thus reduces the management traffic.
